March is Nutrition Month, so we are putting a special highlight on our very own in-house Registered Dietitian, Emma. Emma has a passion for good-tasting, nutritious and wholesome foods. She believes that all food fits and that everything should be enjoyed in moderation. Emma received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Queen’s University, a Master’s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University and a Master of Applied Nutrition from the University of Guelph. She has worked in a variety of different food and nutrition settings, but especially enjoys working in a child-centered environment. Emma has experience working with children, specifically counselling families about infant introduction to solid foods and dealing with picky toddlers. Her experience in the food industry has provided her with a vast knowledge of the nutrition guidelines for school-aged children.
At Wholesome Kids, our focus is creating simple, delicious foods that give kids the nourishment they need to grow and thrive. Emma works with the team to ensure that all menus meet the Child Care and Early Years Act guidelines. She is currently working towards compliance with the Ontario Dietitians in Public Health guidelines for childhood nutrition while still maintaining excellent quality and flavour of our food. Part of our goal at Wholesome Kids is to encourage kids to explore different flavours and expose them to foods that appeal to different cultures. Making this positive impact on children’s eating patterns means careful consideration when sourcing ingredients and products. Emma ensures that our menus prioritize whole grains and achieve a balanced variety of both animal and plant-based proteins as well as sustainable seafood. Emma also works hard to find ways to support our community’s locally owned businesses and farmers, sourcing fresh seasonal produce and products whenever possible.
