Spring Rainbow Cups

Child layering colourful fruit and yogurt into a clear cup

Creating these Spring Rainbow Cups is a fun way for children to explore colourful foods during snack time. Letting kids build their own layered cups encourages curiosity, creativity, and positive experiences with new foods.

Ingredients:

The Base: Yogurt

The Rainbow Layers:

  • Strawberries, chopped
  • Blueberries
  • Banana slices
  • Mango or pineapple

The Crunch: Oats or crunchy cereal

Directions:

  1. Spoon a layer of yogurt into a clear cup or small bowl.
  2. Add chopped strawberries and a sprinkle of oats or crunchy cereal.
  3. Repeat the layers using blueberries, banana slices, and mango or pineapple to create a colourful rainbow effect.
  4. Let children choose the order of their layers and build their own rainbow creation.
  5. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Encourage children to name the colours they used and describe their rainbow before eating.

Dietitian’s Allergy Tips

  • Dairy-free? Swap yogurt for a plant-based yogurt alternative.
  • Need extra crunch? Try low-sugar granola or crushed whole grain cereal.
  • For children under 3 years old, cut blueberries in half to help reduce choking risk.
