THE ROLE

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for managing and overseeing the Shipping Department inclusive of Company Drivers and Independent Contract Drivers. This includes ensuring the drivers follow route maps for timely deliveries, management of routes to ensure efficiency and the coordination of training drivers to deliver the best service possible to Wholesome Kids Catering’s customers. This role also includes administrative duties.

To be successful in this role, the Shipping Supervisor is fully engaged and is always willing to go above and beyond to create a great experience with Wholesome Kids customers through the interactions with Wholesome Kids drivers.  Good relationship building skills are needed to excel with drivers and internal team members. Their main goal is to always ensure timely, accurate shipping, optimized route creation, asset management, people and cost management are imperative to shipping success. Being a professional, the Shipping Supervisor can handle various business needs and is able to work collaboratively and creatively. This is a customer-focused role, that requires a technical acumen.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 – 5 years of supervisory experience
  • At least 3 – 5 years of experience managing outbound logistics
  • Proficient in MS Word Software- Microsoft Office Suite of Applications – Word, Outlook, Excel),
  • Experience with Logistics technology including route mapping / route generation software, GPS tracking, ERP experience (JF preferred)
  • Working in a fast-paced environment; a hands-on role dealing with tight deadlines
  • Can work well independently as well as within a team
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize and manage time well
  • College Diploma or University Degree is required
  • Food Handler certificate an asset
  • Experience in food and HACCP environments is preferred

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all routes leave on time daily
  • Manage driver requirements, interview, and hire positions as needed
  • Manage van maintenance, mileage limits for company vans
  • Reviewing and approving contractor invoices as prepared by Finance on a monthly basis. Reporting any discrepancies and following up on unresolved issues.
  • Coordinate drivers to make food pick-ups for production as required
  • Control budget of the shipping department
  • Collaborate with production team and customer care team to communicate with daily workflows and to optimize processes
  • Ensure HACCP guidelines are being followed
  • Deliver and collect company smallwares from customers and ensure property handling
  • Resolve issues regarding shipped orders
  • Ensure compliance to legal regulations and company policies
  • Report to management on activities and issues
  • Maintaining a van maintenance plan (internal and external) and executes on plan as required to ensure proactive maintenance and safety of all van units
  • Independent contract administration and annual renewal
  • Developing departmental policies and procedures that meet organizational expectations and deliver on driver safety, on-site productivity and flow while meeting on-time delivery requirements.
  • Responsible for staff planning, scheduling and payroll processing for their department
  • Live the Wholesome Values and supports others in Wholesome to also live the Values
  • Makes L3 recommendations for continuous improvement within the scope of their department
  • Developing “A” players to uphold a high performing shipping team
  • Implementing workflows that achieve KPI’s / metrics assigned for the department
  • Actively participates in cross departmental meetings by helping resolve cross functional issues or problems to optimize flow and the customer experience
  • Fluency with technology
  • Focusing on CI initiatives and ensuring that this is happening regularly; and that CI initiatives are brought forward on a regular basis
  • Maintaining a regular cadence with the team (huddles, meetings, 121s)
  • Ensuring that performance management is reviewed regularly, and any issues are documented in the employee file
  • Having open and honest communication (being able to have tough conversations when necessary)
